Wow. 75 years. 2021 marks our 75th anniversary in business.
The now…On the heels of a 2020 that dealt manufacturing industries a blow to the stomach, layoffs…shutdowns…the glass industry was no exception to the turmoil of the Covid-19 health crisis. MOAG was fortunate though, having laid off employees for a very short time and returning to full operation by Summer of 2021. It took a strong leadership team and a determined resilience to keep the lights on in a different way than most years; an event that prompts one to pause. And mark the journey.

Reflection further back in our history, we look at what brought our company to where we are today; from the hand-written legers, penned by James Cameron (founder), to the pictures of John Moag (2nd Generation Moag) as a kid at Fenway Park, not only has the physical geography of the company changed, but so have its people. Like rings on a tree, every person who spent their time working for MOAG left impressions that form who we are today. Spanning from laminating wooden panels for department stores through to tempered glass panels for office furniture companies, our products have evolved over time to match the landscape.

In the 1940s, when MOAG was founded, there were some interesting things happening in the manufacturing industry. While our company developed a product for the department stores known as the “shirt cube unit”, where gentlemen could shop for their favorite button-down shirt or tie, neatly folded, packed, and stacked in a glass cube …McDonald’s birthed a self-serve hamburger stand in San Bernardino, California…RCA began developing the first color TV…and although the first call would not be made until 1973, the prototype for the world’s first cell phone was created by Bell Labs.
We are fortunate to say our history spans three quarters of a century. We have an origin story, context and a legacy to honor. Remembering the faces of family and friends that have come and gone from MOAG over 75 years, we carry them with us to a future just over the horizon. Our experience in glass manufacturing lays a solid groundwork for 75 more years of growth, innovation, and Clear-Cut Results for a family of employees and customers!
